Business Owner's Policy

Does Your Connecticut Business Need a BOP?

A single slip-and-fall claim, a kitchen fire, or a burst pipe overnight can cost a small Connecticut business far more than a year of premiums. A Business Owner’s Policy, or BOP, is built to absorb exactly those kinds of hits by combining several essential coverages into one policy. Main Street Insurance helps Connecticut business owners answer the questions that matter before they buy, what is included, what is not, and whether a BOP fits their operation at all.

What does a BOP bundle together?

A BOP combines general liability, commercial property, and business interruption coverage into a single policy instead of three separate ones. That means one policy protects you if a customer is injured on-site, covers damage to your building and equipment, and replaces lost income if a covered event forces you to close temporarily. Bundling these coverages is usually less expensive than buying each one separately, which is part of why BOPs are popular with small Connecticut businesses.

What is left out that I still need to think about?

Workers’ compensation is required in Connecticut once you have employees, and a BOP does not include it. Business vehicles are not covered either, so a delivery van or a company truck needs its own commercial auto policy. Depending on your industry, you may also want professional liability or cyber liability coverage layered on top, since a BOP is a strong starting point rather than a finished insurance program.

Is my business even eligible?

BOPs are generally designed for small to mid-sized businesses with a physical location and relatively low-risk operations, such as a shop, office, or service business. If your company has grown past that size or works in a higher-risk trade, a customized commercial package may make more sense. Main Street Insurance can tell you quickly which category your business falls into and what coverage actually applies.

How Main Street Insurance helps you decide

Because we are independent and work with carriers such as Progressive, Travelers, and Liberty Mutual, we are not trying to fit your business into one insurer’s version of a BOP. We compare policies, point out the gaps before they become claims, and build a package around how your business operates day to day.
